Marine Attack Squadron 214 (VMA-214), also known as the "Checkmates," is a United States Marine Corps (USMC) aviation unit. This squadron, part of the USMC's Aviation Combat Element, specializes in attack operations using the AV-8B Harrier II aircraft. VMA-214 was established on December 20, 1943, during World War II and has since served in various conflicts including the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The squadron is based at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 14 (MAG-14).
