Somehow nostalgic and new. The 1st album full of the best retro pop! All songs are produced by BIGMAMA and Masato Kanai! Since their debut in 2022, they have had a strong impression of 80's city pop and mellow disco grooves due to the strong image of "Good Night Baby" and "Dance Floor". In July of this year, "To the One with the Heart Soaring," produced by BIGMAMA's Masato Kanai and distributed in advance, was a catchy song that conveyed a more rock-like vibrancy than ever before, foreshadowing the beginning of the second phase of LAYRUS LOOP. All songs on the first album were produced by Kanai. From the brushing up of demo songs to the recording, Kanai and the band members took their time to communicate with each other. This makes LAYRUS' retro musical roots even more appealing. I dare to say that retro does not mean nostalgic in any way. It is retro in the sense that the good old music that is no longer played very often in this day and age has been updated to be new and extremely up-to-date for the modern age.The lead song "Mahoutsukai ni narimashikatta (I want to be a magician)" has a pleasant rhythmic beat, and the song delivers to the masses the sparkle that they longed for as children, without forgetting it even as adults. The song "Yumeminato Tower" is a Showa-era song and enka, and "Happiness" is a country and western song, among other sounds. Of special note was "pretty," a positive song about living "pretty" in a cold and miserable world, regardless of gender. As with the entire album, the sound and the words are not superficial affirmations, but calmly resonate with our minds and bodies from a bird's eye view, which is why we can trust them. Happily, pop music that seemed possible but was impossible was born in 2024. That is why the album title "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" has such extraordinary persuasiveness. (Text by Atsushi Suzuki)
